TREATING YOUR

Dizziness

Are you experiencing frequent episodes of dizziness?

At Active Rehab Centre, we understand how unsettling and disruptive dizziness can be to your daily life. Our dedicated team is here to provide compassionate care and effective treatments to help you overcome dizziness and regain your stability.

What causes dizziness?

Dizziness can have various underlying causes, including:

  • Conditions affecting the inner ear, such as vestibular neuritis, labyrinthitis, or Meniere's disease, can disrupt the body's sense of balance and spatial orientation, leading to dizziness.

  • BPPV is a common inner ear disorder characterized by brief episodes of vertigo triggered by changes in head position, such as turning in bed or looking up.

  • Migraine headaches accompanied by vertigo or dizziness are known as vestibular migraines, which can cause episodes of spinning or unsteadiness.

  • Problems with blood pressure regulation, such as orthostatic hypotension or vasovagal syncope, can lead to dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting.

  • Conditions affecting the brain or nervous system, such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, or vestibular schwannoma (acoustic neuroma), can cause dizziness and imbalance.

  • Certain medications, including those for high blood pressure, anxiety, or motion sickness, can have side effects that affect the vestibular system and contribute to dizziness.

Our approach at Active Rehab Centre

At Active Rehab Centre, we offer a comprehensive approach to address dizziness, including:

  • Our specialized physiotherapists are trained in vestibular rehabilitation techniques to alleviate symptoms of dizziness, improve balance and coordination, and enhance overall function through targeted exercises and maneuvers.

  • For individuals with BPPV, we perform canalith repositioning maneuvers such as the Epley or Semont maneuvers to reposition displaced crystals in the inner ear and alleviate vertigo symptoms.

  • We provide education and guidance on lifestyle modifications, including dietary changes, stress management techniques, and hydration strategies, to help manage triggers and reduce the frequency and severity of dizziness episodes.

  • Our healthcare professionals work closely with patients and their primary care providers to review medications and adjust dosages or switch to alternative medications if necessary to minimize side effects.
